Keep Sedona Beautiful Environmental Workshops
Each year Keep Sedona Beautiful (KSB) hosts various workshops addressing environmental issues affecting the quality of life in the Greater Sedona Area. These series are made possible through various community grants, including from the Sedona Community Foundation.
The purpose of the workshops is to preserve the quality of life and natural beauty of Sedona. The educational environmental workshops are a strategy to educate and engage residents and visitors by providing informational tools needed to make sound decisions about homes and surrounding environment.
This series of workshops is important now due to the increasing population in the area, the effect of increased building in the area and even the potential effect of air flows from Phoenix and Flagstaff related to air quality. It is imperative that the community be aware of existing and emerging environmental issues and able to acquire appropriate practical knowledge as a means of preserving and keeping Sedona beautiful. Environmental degradation (i.e. illegal dumping, concerns of water quality and quantity, increasing light pollution) is a threat to the quality of life and the economy of the region. Education can lead to engagement of citizens in the stewardship of their environment. Each workshop includes a lecture and a hands-on experience and/or field trip.
Subjects for the workshops include sustainability, nature deficit disorder, waste management, light pollution, water quality, air quality, noise abatement, alternative energy resources, water conservation, land preservation and open space between communities, forest land degradation and other issues that are pressing during the year.
