Keep Sedona Beautiful Water Committee is looking for conservation advocates!

The KSB Water Conservation Committee invites any KSB members interested in the issue of water conservation to join us. Water conservation is becoming an important topic in the Verde Valley.

For years Keep Sedona Beautiful has been on the leading edge of dissemination of information and bringing this before the public in the Verde Valley. Through the partnership of KSB and The League of Women Voters, numerous organizations have been spawned to combine efforts to establish much-needed awareness and legislation for water conservation. Among them have been the Regional Watershed Consortium (North Central Arizona Water Consortium), The Verde River Basin Partnership, The Water Awareness Alliance and making April Water Awareness Month, sponsoring numerous water events.

KSB is represented in each of these groups, and some members are involved outside the committee in attending other water-related groups in the watershed. Please join us in preserving our future in water here in the Valley. Call Charles Hinkley, 282-5420, or e-mail ehrton@esedona.net.

Help make every drop count...announcing the City of Sedona's new water conservation program.

On March 30, 2006, the Sedona City Council adopted a new Water Conservation Policy with the goal of reducing our city’s water use and providing regional leadership on how a community can conserve natural resources.

Here is what you can do to help:

  • Run dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads.
  • Turn off the faucet when brushing teeth or shaving.
  • Take shorter showers.
  • Use a broom to clean sidewalks, driveways, and parking areas.
  • Review monthly water bills to uncover possible leaks or over-consumption.
  • Use toilets only to carry away sanitary waste.
  • Use xeriscaping and native plants in your landscaping.
  • Adjust irrigation schedules with weather in mind.
  • Water early or late in the day.
  • Adjust or replace sprinkler heads to eliminate the spraying of hard surfaces.
  • Examine irrigation systems for leaks.
  • Install drip and other deep-water irrigation systems.
  • Use containers to catch and use rainwater.
  • Display water conservation signage in all public restrooms.
  • Regularly inspect, maintain, and repair cooling systems.
  • Install water-efficient appliances and fixtures.
  • Use treated effluent to control dust on construction sites.
  • Promote the use of native and low-water-use plants at work.
  • Track your business's monthly water use to identify any changes.
  • Work with other businesses to promote water conservation.

Water Facts:

  • Everyday the United States uses more than 380 billion gallons of water.
  • The average American uses 140-170 gallons of water a day.
  • You use five gallons of water by leaving the sink running while brushing your teeth.
  • More than half of all residential water is used for landscaping.
  • A dripping faucet can waste up to 2,000 gallons of water a month.
  • Each glass of water at a restaurant takes two glasses to wash it.
