In this presentation, we will be discussing the essential oils, chemistries, therapeutic actions and doctrine of signatures of six native aromatic plants, which are on location. Mexican Arnica (Heterotheca subaxillaris) and Conyza (Conyza canadensis) have “volunteered” in the VVS community garden. Others such as Snakeweed (Gutierrezia sarothrae), Pinyon Pine (Pinus edulis), Utah Juniper (Juniperus osteosperma) and Arizona Juniper (Juniperus arizonica) are all found in the immediate area.
Clare Licher has studied and worked with native medicinal plants since she moved to Arizona in 1991. She and her husband, Max, bought their first essential oil distillation system in 2005 and since then have distilled over 100 species of plants. Clare speaks and teaches both nationally and internationally on the aromatic plants of the Southwest, and has done many volunteer EO distillation training workshops in Jamaica and Haiti, and has written articles for the International Journal of Clinical Aromatherapy and Aromatherapy Acology Today. Clare and Max offer workshops and an annual retreat in conjunction with the New York Institute of Aromatic Studies on ethical wildcrafting and essential oil distillation.
