Workshop 5: Issues Facing Honeybees and Native Bees in the US
Jeff Schalau‘s presentation focuses on bees, and the threats facing them from parasitic mites, viruses, pesticides, agricultural practices, and practices that will minimize risk to both native bees and domestic honeybees.

Jeff Schalau is an Associate Agent, Agriculture and Natural Resources for the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension in Yavapai County . He has held this position since 1998. Jeff studied Forest Management (B.S. 1988) and Natural Resources (M.S. 1992) at Humboldt State University in Arcata , California . Jeff provides science-based information to Yavapai County residents in the areas of forest health, watershed management, noxious/invasive plants, range management, and horticulture. He and his wife, Dorothy Baxter, enjoy vegetable gardening, chickens and their two acre native plant landscape at their home in Prescott , Arizona. Jeff is also a Herkenheim award winner.
