
Workshop 5: Garry Neil: Lichens 101 – Gaining an Appreciation of a Usually Ignored Organism
The presentation will include an introduction to the biology of lichens along with hands on examination of various species found in the Red Rock Ranger District of the Coconino National Forest. You should not attend if you are allergic to fungal spores.
Garry Neil is a member of the Friends of the Forest and has been working with the Red Rock Ranger District and the Arizona State University Lichen Herbarium in doing a survey of lichen species located in the Red Rock Ranger District of the Coconino National Forest. He has an academic background in lichen physiology/ecology and since his retirement he has rejuvenated his interest in lichen identification.
