Attend the Thursday December 20 Planning and Zoning Meeting

Those of us who oppose inappropriate development must work constantly to safeguard the beauty of Sedona and the quality of our environment.  A developer needs only one victory to put that environment at risk.

Many of your friends and neighbors have already expressed their strong opposition to the proposal to develop the El Rojo Grande property into a 650 unit manufactured and mobile home development.  You can read their statements of opposition by clicking here.

As a KSB Trustee has noted, “If this is approved, we will have to live with the consequences!”

KSB member and concerned citizen John Black has written a report that provides detailed information about the proposed development.  His report is a must-read for citizen concerned about El Rojo Grande.  You can read his report by clicking here.

On Thursday December 20 at 9:00 am the Yavapai County Planning and Zoning (P&Z) Commission will begin hearings concerning the proposal to develop the El Rojo Grande property.  This P&Z meeting will be held at 10 South 6th Street in Cottonwood.

During this meeting, only the developer, Chicago-based Equity LifeStyle Properties (ELS), will be given an opportunity to present.  No public comments will be taken and no vote will occur at this meeting.  El Rojo Grande is the third item on the P&Z meeting schedule, so there’s unfortunately no way of knowing when P&Z will take up El Rojo Grande.

However, Keep Sedona Beautiful strongly urges concerned citizens to make a strong statement by attending this public meeting and respectfully demonstrating your concerns by your presence.  Wear red, to show your concern.

We also implore you to make your feelings known by contacting the Yavapai County Planning Department ASAP.  Letters and emails received by January 7 will be shared with County Commissioners and will become part of the public record.  It is important that communications focus on certain the aspects of the development, as commissioners will pay no attention to what they consider extraneous aspects. Information on how to contact them, and what aspects to focus on, can be found by clicking here.

Then, on Thursday January 17 at 9:00 am Yavapai County will hold a public session during which your voice can be heard.  This meeting will also take place at 10 South 6th Street in Cottonwood.  We again strongly urge you to attend and to wear red to show your concern.
