Dark Skies – Starry Nights

September 26, 2015:  Verde River Day

Dead Horse Ranch State Park in Cottonwood celebrated its 27th annual Verde River Day.  Arizona State Parks waived park entrance fees for all visitors attending the event.  Verde River Day promotes preservation and care of the environment by showcasing informative exhibits on the Verde’s unique riparian habitat.  The event started at 9:00 a.m. and ended at 3:00 p.m.

Keep Sedona Beautiful (KSB) Dark-Sky Committee participated in this event with an exhibit table of dark-sky literature.  Over a hundred people visited our exhibit table, including curious children, residents, visitors, and dogs.  We discussed preserving our dark night sky by reducing light pollution and using fully shielded light fixtures.  We distributed the hot-off-the-press KSB Dark-Sky Brochure as well as the International Dark-Sky Association Brochure.
