On Wednesday, January 20, 2027, Dr. Jennifer Richter will speak on “Arizona’s Energy Landscapes: Past, Present, and Where We Go Next” Doors open at 4:30 with the presentation starting at 5:00. Join us at the KSB EcoHub, 360 Brewer Road in Sedona.
Concerns about energy demands have increased significantly due to the explosive growth of data centers. Arizona has evolved large scale energy policies and systems around coal, nuclear, and solar energy, making it one of the most energy-diverse states in the Southwest. However, the production and distribution of those systems have left indelible legacies on the landscapes and communities of Arizona. This talk will look at Arizona’s energy history, examining the values and policies that have shaped the energy landscape and discuss how we can ensure present decisions do not create toxic legacies for future populations. This program is made possible by Arizona Humanities.
Dr. Richter is an associate professor in the School for the Future of Innovation in Society and School of Social Transformation at Arizona State University. She is also a senior Global Futures Scholar with the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Futures Laboratory. She focuses on identifying and articulating systemic energy injustices, and informing new methods and processes to include more diverse voices in energy planning, for more equitable and intergeneration energy futures
